In Glacier National Park in Montana, US, the body of Pune resident Siddhant Patil has been recovered by park rangers. Patil's family confirmed on Monday that US authorities had informed them of the recovery.
Patil, 26, was hiking in the park's Rocky Mountains with seven friends on July 6 when he fell into Avalanche Creek. Glacier National Park officials announced on Sunday that after weeks of searching, they believe they have found Patil's body. They also recovered clothing and gear similar to what Patil was wearing at the time of the incident. A park visitor reported seeing a body in Avalanche Creek below the gorge at around 10:30 am, prompting rangers to begin recovery efforts. The Flathead County coroner is working to confirm the identity through DNA or dental records.
Patil had called his mother during the trip, saying he was enjoying his time at the park with six other friends. He had also texted her two hours before the tragedy, mentioning he would return to San Jose in three days.
Patil, an only child, had been in the US since 2020 for his MS at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and began working at a software company in 2023. His father recently retired from the Maharashtra Government’s irrigation department, and his mother is a homemaker.
